@PGATourBrunch Previews the 2022 Wyndham Championship
GREENSBORO - The Wyndham Championship marks the final regular season event on the 2021-22 PGA Tour schedule. After conclusion of play Sunday, the FedEx Cup standings will determine qualification for the players positioned in the Top 125 of FedEx Cup points.
After the weekend, the Top 125 players in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Aug. 11-14 at TPC Southwind in Germantown, Tennessee. From there, the Top 70 eligible players will qualify for the following week’s BMWChampionship at Wilmington (Delaware) Country Club, with the Top 30 after the BMW earning spots in the field for the season-ending TOUR Championship at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club.
Two players in the field have qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs in each season, with Australia’s Adam Scott safe at No. 73 and Charley Hoffman (148th) outside of the bubble to qualify for the playoffs (Matt Kuchar, not in field, will also extend his streak). Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson are not in the field and will miss the Playoffs for the first time in the FedEx Cup era.
Since the points structure changed in 2009, an average of 2.5 players per year entered the final week of FedEx Cup regular season outside the Top 125 in the standings and gone on to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
