Weekend Preview of the 2023 WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE - In first title defense, 2022 WM Phoenix Open winner Scottie Scheffler is trying to become the seventh player to successfully defend his tournament title. The last defending champion to hold the 36-hole lead/co-lead at the event was Johnny Miller in 1975.
Arizona State University graduate and FedEx Cup leader Jon Rahm is seeking his third PGA Tour victory this season.
Adam Hadwin is seeking to become the second Canadian to win this event. The first was George Knudson in 1968.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy (T-18) sits 5-under thru 13 holes after opening with a 2-over (73). McIlroy made his second WM Phoenix Open start with his first effort a T-13 in 2021.
The WM Phoenix Open is the 15th event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season and the second designated event. This event features 22 of the Top 25 players in the Official World Golf Ranking and nine of the Top 10 players in the FedEx Cup (all but Justin Rose). There’s a $20m purse awaiting the qualifiers.
