PGA Tour Brunch | Recap of the 2026 WM Phoenix Open | Scottsdale
By TERRY LYONS, Editor-in-Chief Digital Sports Desk
SCOTTSDALE - Chris Gotterup (Winner/-16) earned his fourth career PGA TOUR title in his 71st start at the age of 26 years, 6 months, 19 days. His PGA TOUR wins (4): 2024 ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, 2026 Sony Open in Hawaii, 2026 WM Phoenix Open).
Gotterup began his final round four strokes back of Hideki Matsuyama and formulated his second “come-from-behind victory” on TOUR (2026 Sony Open in Hawaii/trailed by 2) this season.
Gotterup’s (64) tied his low final-round score on TOUR (2026 Sony Open in Hawaii/Won, 2025 CJ CUP Byron Nelson/T15). To do so, he birdied five of his last six holes (Nos. 13-15, 17-18).
Gotterup was the FedEx Cup points leader entering the week and with his second victory in three starts this season (Sony Open in Hawaii/Won, Farmers Insurance Open/T18, WM Phoenix Open/Won).
This win marked his third victory in his last 10 starts on TOUR.
The TOUR now heads to Pebble Beach for the first “Signature Event” of the season.
Aon Swing 5
The WM Phoenix Open was the final opportunity for players to earn FedExCup points towards the Aon Swing 5 to gain entry into each of the next two Signature Events (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Genesis Invitational); the top five players, not otherwise exempt, who earned the most FedExCup points during the Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open and the WM Phoenix Open, qualified for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational
