OAKMONT, (Pennsylvania) - J.J. Spaun of Los Angeles needed to two-putt No. 18 to bring home the U.S. Open championship from Oakmont Country Club, one of the toughest golf courses in the world. Instead of a two-putt to claim the title, Spaun drained a 64-footer that dropped perfectly into the cup right in front of his wife and two daughters.
It was a Happy Father’s Day, for Spaun, and more important than the money will be the memory of winning a major that he’ll hold for the rest of his life.
Spaun finished the U.S. Open as the only golfer under par. In doing so, the 34-year-old earned his first major title with his previous best finish: T23/2022 Masters Tournament. Spaun is the first player since Xander Schauffele (2024 PGA Championship) to win his first major and the first player since Wyndham Clark (2023) to earn his first major win at the U.S. Open.
He earned his second win on TOUR in his 236th start (2022 Valero Texas Open) and became the first player on TOUR since 2003 to shoot in the 40s on the front nine of the final round and go on to win.
Spaun moved up to No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking and moved up to No. 6 in the FedEx Cup standings.
