@PGATourBrunch Wraps-Up Coverage from TPC River Highlands in Conn
CROMWELL - Xander Schauffele claimed his sixth career PGA Tour title, second of the season and first individual stroke-play title since the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Schauffele improved to 1-for-5 when attempting to convert a 54-hole lead on Tour.
After making his professional debut at the 2020 Travelers Championship (MC), Sahith Theegala carded a double bogey on the 72nd hole to finish T-2, two strokes behind Schauffele.
In his third PGA Tour start, 20-year-old Michael Thorbjornsen (Finished 4th at (-15) from Wellesley, Massachusetts was competing on a sponsor exemption in bid to become first amateur to win on Tour since Phil Mickelson (1991 Northern Telecom Open). The last player to win competing on a sponsor exemption was Martin Laird (2021 Shriners Children’s Open).
Best finish by an amateur at the Travelers Championship before this week: Jim Grant when he T-6 in ‘66.
Talk about a bad day at the office? Patrick Cantlay made nine bogeys, a double bogey, five birdies and just three pars in his final round to shoot 6-over (76).
