GREENSBORO - Cameron Young (-14 thru 15 holes) seeks his first PGA TOUR victory in his 94th start. Five of his seven runner-up finishes came during the 2021-22, with two since (2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play/2nd, 2024 Valspar Championship/2nd).
Young is making his second start at the Wyndham Championship (T22/2024). He entered the week No. 40 in the FedEx Cup standings and is currently projected No. 16 with a win.
Aaron Rai (-13 thru 13 holes) currently trails Cameron Young by one stroke. Should he move into the lead/co-lead when the second round is complete, he’d become the first defending champion at the Wyndham Championship to do so at the 36 hole mark since Mike Souchak in 1962 (finished 2nd).
Rai seeks to become the first player to successfully defend at the Wyndham Championship since Sam Snead in 1956.
This season, Scottie Scheffler is the only player to successfully defend a title of a year ago (the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday).
Notes
Erik van Rooyen, Akshay Bhatia and Isaiah Salinda withdrew during R-2.
2022 Wyndham Championship runner-up Sungjae Im (-12) opened with matching 6-under (64s) and now has 24 rounds in the 60s in his 26 rounds at Sedgefield Country Club.
Mark Hubbard (-11), at No. 98 in the FedExCup standings, needs a three-way T2 or better for a chance to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Gary Woodland (-9) holed a 7-iron from 190 yards on the par-5 fifth hole for the third albatross on TOUR this season and the 144th overall since 1983.
