On This Day in Golf History
May 8, 1994 -John Daly won his third of five PGA Tour titles at the Bell South Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. Daly defeated Nolan Hencke and Brian Henninger by only a stroke to take the title. Larry Dorman of The New York Times wrote at the time, “John Daly took another giant step on the road back today. He took an emotional walk across the minefield from alcoholism, from suspension, and ultimately, from self-doubt, all on one, cool, spectacular afternoon and he won the Bell South Classic at the Atlanta Country club the way he has never won a golf tournament in his life. He won it sober.” (Courtesy of Randy Walker, Author of On This Day in Golf History, available via Amazon.com and by clicking HERE).
