CROMWELL - Eric Cole (1st/-7) posted a bogey-free 7-under (63) to equal his best round of the season (Charles Schwab Challenge/R3). Cole is ranked among the Top-4 (after the first round) in the following Strokes Gained categories:

He most recently shared the first-round lead two weeks ago at the RBC Canadian Open, but followed up a 64 in round one with a 76 to become the first player to hold at least a share of the 18-hole lead and go on to miss the cut since Jordan Spieth at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii
Scottie Scheffler (T2/-6), the World No. 1 and 2024 Travelers Championship winner , opened with a bogey-free 6-under (64) in his seventh start at the event. This marked his 83rd bogey-free round, the most of any player on the PGA TOUR since 2019.
Scheffler’s first-round scoring average at TPC River Highlands is 65.86.
Notes:
Milford, Connecticut native Ben James (T32/-2), who earned PGA TOUR membership as the No. 1 player from the 2026 PGA TOUR University Ranking, opened with a 2-under (68) in his first Travelers Championship start as a professional and third overall. He missed the cut as an amateur in 2022 and 2023 at TPC River Highlands. (* See Below in Highlighted Clips).
Thursday’s 67.961 scoring marks the lowest first-round scoring average of the season with the previous best: 68.288/The American Express.
