PORTRUSH (Northern Ireland) - On Friday, Scottie Scheffler (1st/-10) took his 19th career 36-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR and fourth this season (Texas Children’s Houston Open/T2, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson/Won, Travelers Championship/T6); 7-for-18 to date.
It’s his fourth 36-hole lead/co-lead in major championships; 2-for-3 to date (2022 Masters Tournament/won, 2023 PGA Championship/T2, 2024 Masters Tournament/won).
Scheffler is a 16-time PGA TOUR winner in search of fourth victory of the 2025 season (THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, PGA Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday).
Matt Fitzpatrick (2nd/-9) made his 10th start at The Open Championship, with a T20 at Royal Portrush in 2019 as his best finish. Fitzpatrick was the winner of the Silver Medal in 2013 (Muirfield), given to the Low Amateur at The Open.
