Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Notebook:
Tournament leader in Norway’s Viktor Hovland (-9) is in position to win for the second time in his last three PGA Tour starts.
Thursday’s co-leader Patrick Reed is T-2 with (-8), made four bogeys en route to even-par 72 after bogey-free (64) opening round.
Peter Malnati is T-8 (-7) and advanced to the weekend for the first time after missing the cut in four prior appearances at Farmers Insurance Open (2014, 2017, 2018, 2020).
For the first two rounds, the South Course is playing to a cumulative 73.955 average while the North Course was an easier average score of 70.131. The rest of the tournament is on the South Course.
Cutline was at (-1) after a torrential rain storm (an atmospheric river) fell on Torrey Pines and the La Jolla area yesterday. A total of 79 players came in at 1-under (143) from a field of 155 professionals and one amateur.
Phil Mickelson made the cut with two birdies on his final two holes.

On This Day in Golf History:
January 30, 1977 - Tom Watson won for the second consecutive week and for his fifth victory on the PGA Tour when he shot a final round (69) at the Andy Williams San Diego Open at Torrey Pines. Watson won by five shots over Larry Nelson and John Schroeder. The previous week, Watson took the title at the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am.
