Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines - Tourney Notes
Each of the last four winners of this event have been from countries outside of the United States. The Farmers Insurance Open is one of three active PGA Tour events with four or more consecutive international champions (Arnold Palmer Invitational (5), Farmers Insurance Open (4), and the Valspar Championship (4).
The defending champion is Australian Marc Leishman who won on “Australia Day” in 2020 to claim his fifth career PGA Tour title.
Eight of the past Farmers Insurance Open champions are in the field this week: Phil Mickelson (1993, 2000, 2001), Nick Watney (2009), Bubba Watson (2011), Scott Stallings (2014), Brandt Snedeker (2012, 2016), Jon Rahm (2017), Jason Day (2015, 2018), and Leishman (2020).
Three-time Farmers Insurance Open winner Phil Mickelson has returned to the event for his 31st PGA Tour start at Torrey Pines.
Make note as this week’s venue, Torrey Pines (South), is scheduled to host the U.S. Open in June.
