LA QUINTA - Five of the Top-10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are in the field, the most at The American Express on record with records available 2000-present. No. 2 Scottie Scheffler, No. 4 Jon Rahm, No. 5 Patrick Cantlay, No. 6 Xander Schauffele and No. 7 Will Zalatoris are all in the field. Scheffler and Cantlay can move to World No. 1 this weekend.
Scottie Scheffler, who is making his fourth start at The American Express, held a share of the lead after the second and third rounds in 2020 before finishing third. In his last three outings, Scheffler has three consecutive Top-10s on Tour (T-3/World Wide Technology Championship, T-9/Cadence Bank Houston Open, T-7/Sentry Tournament of Champions).

January 18, 1998 - Fred Couples won his 13th beating Bruce Lietzke in a playoff at the Bob Hope Desert Classic. Couple birdied No. 18 to tie Lietzke and force the OT with both players at 28-under. Couple birdied it again 20-minutes later for the title.
