PGA Tour Brunch Recap of the 2025 Masters Tournament | A Classic
By TERRY LYONS, Editor-in-Chief of Digital Sports Desk
AUGUSTA - No matter if you were looking at this weekend’s Masters through “Rose” colored glasses or if you were riding “the Rory-Coaster,” the 2025 Masters Tournament was one for the ages. It wasn’t just an exciting and dramatic golf tournament, it was one of the great sporting events of recent history.
Rory McIlroy defeated Justin Rose with a birdie-3 on the first playoff hole (No. 18) of the 18th playoff in Masters history. At the most recent, in 2017, Sergio Garcia defeated - yes - the very same Justin Rose with a birdie-3 on the first playoff hole (No. 18).
This year was the third Masters playoff in a row to feature all international players: 2013/Adam Scott def. Angel Cabrera, 2017/Sergio Garcia def. Justin Rose.
PGA TOUR playoff records: Rory McIlroy (4-2), Justin Rose (1-4)
McIlroy’s second playoff this season as he defeated J.J. Spaun at THE PLAYERS Championship.

April 14, 1996 - Nick Faldo made up a six shot deficit and won his third Masters title by five shots over Greg Norman. Faldo shot a final round (67) while Norman collapsed with a final round (78). After suffering one of the worst defeats in sports history, Norman settled for second place for the third time at the Masters. - Courtesy of Randy Walker, Author of On This Day in Golf History, available via Amazon.com and by clicking HERE
