SAN ANTONIO - Twelve-time PGA TOUR winner and 2015 FedExCup champion Jordan Spieth is back in San Antonio to defend his Valero Texas Open title. With the win in 2021, Spieth earned his first on Tour since the 2017 Open Championship, snapping a winless drought of 82 PGA Tour starts and 1,351 days. He has never successfully defended a title.
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Matt Kuchar is making his 500th PGA Tour event start. The last two players to reach 500 starts were Pat Perez (2021 World Wide Tecnology Championship) and Steve Stricker (2020 Genesis Invitational).
San Antonio hometown native Abraham Ancer, originally from Mexico, has withdrawn from the tournament, along with Andrew Landry.
