By TERRY LYONS, Editor of Digital Sports Desk
HONOLULU - The 29-year-old Davis Riley is seeking his third win on TOUR in his 131st start (2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans/with partner Nick Hardy; 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge).
This is Riley’s third 54-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR and he’s 1-for-2 in converting to victory to date - citing the 2022 Valspar Championship (2nd), 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge (1st).
This is Riley’s third appearance at the Sony Open in Hawaii (T20/2022, MC/2024) and he leads the field in Strokes Gained: Putting (11.564) and birdies (20).
Nick Taylor (T5/-9) posted an even-par (70), his 19th straight par-or-better round at Waialae Country Club, but his streak of 13 straight rounds in the 60s comes to an end. Taylor is seeking to become the first back-to-back Sony Open in Hawaii champion since Jimmy Walker (2015).
