Third Round Coverage of 2026 SONY Open in Hawaii
By TERRY LYONS, Editor of Digital Sports Desk
HONOLULU - It’s a crowded leaderboard at The SONY Open in Hawaii after the first cutline of the season came down on some prominent golfers - including USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and multi-time champ Collin Morokawa.
Nick Taylor and four others share the lead after 36 holes. The 37-year-old Taylor seeks his sixth win on TOUR in his 307th start (2014 Sanderson Farms Championship, 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, 2023 RBC Canadian Open, 2024 WM Phoenix Open, 2025 Sony Open in Hawaii). Taylor looks to become the event’s first back-to-back champion since Jimmy Walker (2015).
In his third appearance at The SONY Open (T20/2022, MC/2024), Davis Riley matched the low round of the day (64) as he leads the field in Strokes Gained: Putting (8.764) and birdies (14).
S.H. Kim (63-68) hold only his second 36-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR and is 0-for-1 to date as he finished 2nd at the 2023 Fortinet Championship.
The 25-year-old Adrien Dumont de Chassart is chasing his first win on TOUR in his 33rd lifetime start. His best finish to date was a T3/2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Dumont de Chassart looks to become the 10th player to make The Sony Open in Hawaii his first win on TOUR with the most recent being Russell Henley in 2013.
Kevin Roy (62-69) is a 35-year-old who is after his first win on TOUR in his 62nd start. His best finish: T3/2025 John Deere Classic). This is his first 36-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR with the previous best 36-hole position being the T5/2023 John Deere Classic where he finished T31.
Vijay Singh, 62, made the cut at Waialae Country Club on Friday, just his second made cut on Tour since 2021. Singh surprised his colleagues when he decided to use a career money exemption in 2026, making him eligible for full-field events on the PGA TOUR this season. Singh has not played full-time on TOUR since 2017.
Singh’s performance was a reminder of the 34-time TOUR winner’s immense talent. Singh has played primarily on PGA TOUR Champions since 2017. He’s won five times on that circuit.

On This Day in Golf History
January 17, 1995 - The Golf Channel, the 24-hour a day network devoted entirely to the sport of golf, made its debut after a ceremonial “flip of the switch” by golf legend and co-founder Arnold Palmer. The idea for the channel stemmed from entrepreneur Joseph Gibbs of Birmingham, Alabama, who thought of the channel in 1991. With the help of Palmer, they raised $80 million in financing to launch the network. - Courtesy of Randy Walker, Author of On This Day in Golf History, available via Amazon.com and by clicking HERE
