PGA Tour Brunch Previews the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic | Detroit
DETROIT - Defending champion Aldrich Potgieter earned his maiden PGA TOUR title here last year, defeating Max Greyserman and Chris Kirk in a playoff. Potgieter defeated Greyserman with a 17-foot, 10-inch birdie putt on the fifth playoff hole; Kirk was eliminated on the second playoff hole (bogeyed par-3 15th).
Potgieter won the 2025 Rocket Classic at 20 years, 9 months, 16 days of age; remains eighth-youngest winner on TOUR since 2000 and became the 2025 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year who was the only rookie to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs.
Tournament Notes:
The Rocket Classic is the 33rd of 34 regular season events in the 2026 season, with two weeks remaining until the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Detroit Golf Club’s North Course, which has played host of all seven editions of the Rocket Classic, underwent a $16.1 million restoration over the last year; the project restored the strategic vision of legendary architect Donald Ross and features an expanded course layout, improved course drainage and irrigation, fresh greens and fairways, and rebuilt bunkers.
The course will play as a par 70, down from a par 72 in previous years (Nos. 7 and 17 will now play as par 4s).
The 2025 Rocket Classic marked the longest playoff on the PGA TOUR since the 2021 BMW Championship (six holes); there have been three playoffs in the seven-year history of the Rocket Classic
