DETROIT - Chris Kirk (T1/-14) (130) marked his lowest opening 36-hole score on TOUR since career-low 129 (64-65) at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii. At 14-under par, this tourney tied his best score relative to par through 36 holes since (2024 Sentry/Won).
Kirk holds his fifth 36-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR, with a 1-for-4 converting to victory ratio (2023 Sony Open in Hawaii/3rd, 2020 Rocket Classic/T21, 2013 RSM Classic/Won, 2011 Texas Children’s Houston Open/T2).
Kirk is a six-time TOUR winner with victories each of the last two seasons (2024 Sentry, 2023 Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches) and is bidding to become the oldest to winner on TOUR this season (will be 40 years, 1 month, 21 days of age Sunday).
Philip Knowles (T1/-14) recorded three eagles (par-5 4th, 7th, 17th) and cards 8-under 64 in the second round, marking his second-lowest 18-hole score on TOUR (63/2024 Black Desert Championship/R2).
Knowles became the second player this season to make three eagles in a round joining(Chandler Phillips/THE PLAYERS Championship/R1), and the third player to make three hole-out eagles in a round since 2003, joining (Tyrrell Hatton/2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree/R3, Chez Reavie/2019 Sony Open in Hawaii/R2).
Notes:
PGA TOUR winner Jake Knapp (T8/-11) carded an 11-under (61) to set a new 18-hole scoring record at Detroit Golf Club, with the previous best a very recent pair of 62s b y Aldrich Potgieter and Kevin Roy/R1/2025).
It marked the second tournament course record broken by Knapp this season (59/ PGA National Resort (Champions Course)/R1/Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches); becomes the first player to record a sub-60 score and a score of 61 or better in a season. In doing so, he became the first player with multiple rounds of 61 or lower in a season since the 2022-23 season (Patrick Cantlay, Ludvig Åberg).
PGA TOUR rookie Jackson Suber (4th/-13) established a career-high best 36-hole position (previous: T5/2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open/finished T52) and is bidding to become the second rookie to win on TOUR this season (Karl Vilips/Puerto Rico Open.
The 18-hole co-leader and PGA TOUR rookie Aldrich Potgieter (T5/-12) stands inside the Top 10 through 36 holes for the second time in what is his 20th career start on TOUR (1st/2025 Mexico Open at Vidanta World/finished P2); youngest 2025 TOUR member (20 years, 9 months, 14 days) and leads the TOUR in Driving Distance this season (326.6).
Our 18-hole co-leader Kevin Roy (T8/-11) stands inside the top 10 through 36 holes for the second time in what is his 49th career start on TOUR (T5/2023 John Deere Classic/finished T31).
