FORT WORTH - Beginning his final round seven strokes off the lead, Sam Burns tied the low round of the day, together with Danny Lee, with a 5-under (65), then sank a 38’ 2” putt for birdie on the first playoff hole to beat World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler.
Burns tied Nick Price (1994) for the largest final-round comeback by a winner in Charles Schwab Challenge history while earning his third win of the season. Burns is the second player to win more than twice in the 2021-22 season, joining Scheffler.
Burns is now 2-1 in PGA Tour playoffs, while Scheffler dropped to 1-1.
Scheffler was seeking to become the third player in Tour history to record his first five wins in the same season.
Brendon Todd finished solo-third, marking his best finish since winning the 2019 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.
In an effort to claim his first career PGA Tour title in his 182nd start, Harold Varner III was tied for the lead through 11 holes, before playing Nos. 12-18 in 10-over par. That resulted in Varner’s R-4 finish of 8-over (78) and T-27 at even par 280.
Defending champion Jason Kokrak finished 67th at 8-over (288).
Scoring averages for the week: R-1:70.783, R-2: 69.824, R-3: 70.609, R-4: 72.275
