Second Round Coverage of the 2025 RBC Heritage | Corales Update
HILTON HEAD - Justin Thomas equalled the RBC Heritage 18-hole scoring record with a 10-under (61) (David Frost/R2/1994, Troy Merritt/R2/2015). His round marked the lowest opening-round score in event history. The previous, a (62), three times and most recently by Cameron Smith in 2021.
It was Thomas’ sixth 61 on TOUR and falls two shy of career-low round (59/R1) at the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii.
JT became the first player this season with multiple rounds of 62 or better (62/THE PLAYERS Championship/R2). It’s his 12th career 18-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR and first since the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. Thomas is 4-for-11 converting opening round leads to victory, the most recent being the 2019 BMW Championship.
No first-round leader/co-leader has won on TOUR in 16 starts this season.
Nick Dunlap - who shot 90-71 in the first two rounds of the Masters - struggled again in the first round at Hilton Head. Dunlap shot (+7, 78) in his opening round.

April 18, 2010 - Jim Furyk won the Verizon Heritage Classic (same tournament s this one) when Brian Davis called a two-shot penalty on himself on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Davis hit a reed of long grass and violated rule 13.4 - moving of a loose impediment during take-away.
