Weekend Preview for the 2023 SONY Open in Hawaii

HONOLULU - Play at the SONY Open in Hawaii was suspended due to darkness at 6:18pm with Davis Thompson the lone player who will finish his second round today at 7:10am/12 noon (ET). Thompson is right on the cutline and must par or better. The third round will begin at 8am (local)/1:00pm (ET).
First-round co-leader Jordan Spieth bogeyed five of his last 11 holes to shoot 5-over (75) and will miss the cut after opening with (64) on Thursday. He’s the first 18-hole leader/co-leader to miss the cut since Matt Every (2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard).
Two-time Sony Open in Hawaii runner-up (2014, 2021) Chris Kirk carded a 5-under (65) to take the overnight lead at 11-under (129). He will hold the second-round lead/co-lead for the fourth time, converting for the win 1-for-3 to date.
J.J. Spaun and first-round co-leader Taylor Montgomery share second place at 10-under, one stroke behind Kirk.
For the second consecutive day, a player recorded a hole-in-one, when Adam Svensson aced the par-3 seventh hole with a 7-iron from 175 yards.

January 14, 1945 - Byron Nelson won the Phoenix Open - his first of a record 18 tournament wins during the 1945 season. Nelson entered 30 tournaments and famously won 11 straight from Miami Four Ball in March through the Memphis Classic in August.
