TORONTO - Wyndham Clark holds a one-stroke lead after his lowest round of the season (63) as he tied his second-lowest score of his Tour career. The lowest being a (61) at R-1/2020 WM Phoenix Open.
It’s his third career 18-hole lead/co-lead on Tour but Clark is 0-for-2 to date (17th/2017 Sanderson Farms Championship, T34/2020 WM Phoenix Open) in converting to a win.
Matt Fitzpatrick (2nd) has 16 Top-10s on Tour since the start of the 2019-20 season, the most of any player without a Tour win in that span.
Defending champion Rory McIlroy opened with a 4-under (66) and enters the second round T-5 while World No. 1 and FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler carded a 1-under (69) in his first start since falling to Sam Burns in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge
Mackenzie Hughes is T-5 after a 4-under (66), the best of any Canadian player in the field.
Michael Gligic withdrew during the first round
Kevin Stadler was disqualified after not signing his scorecard; fourth DQ of Stadler’s career (305th start).
