CROMWELL - Fifty-five players who competed in the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. will take part in the 2022 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. The courses are only about 1.5 hour drive apart, each in the suburbs - The Country Club west of Boston and River Highlands in Cromwell, just east of Hartford.
Since winning the Travelers in 2017, Jordan Spieth will seek his first Top 10 in Cromwell since winning in his Travelers Championship debut … His recent history: Won/2017, T-42/2018, MC/2019, T-54/2020
Sponsor exemption and University of Texas standout Cole Hammer is making his first professional start on Tour after making one cut in seven starts as an amateur when he finished T-61/2019 at the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open. Other sponsor exemptions include: Chris Gotterup, Ben James (amateur) and Michael Thorbjornsen (amateur). Players who competed on sponsor exemptions at past Travelers Championships include: Webb Simpson (2008), Rickie Fowler (2009), Patrick Cantlay (2011), Justin Thomas (2013), Jon Rahm (2015), Matthew Wolff (2019), Viktor Hovland (2019), Collin Morikawa (2019) and Sahith Theegala (2020). … That’s a pretty good prospect list which bodes well for Gotterup, James and Thorbjornsen.
