Tournament Preview for the 2023 AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
By TERRY LYONS
PEBBLE BEACH - The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will feature 156 professionals competing in a 72-hole stroke-play competition on three courses: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Monterey Peninsula Country Club (Shore). The PGA Tour schedule includes four events played on multiple courses, with three being played consecutively as the California swing features The American Express (three courses), Farmers Insurance Open (two courses) and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (three courses) played back-to-back. The RSM is the other multi-course tournament.
There are 81 players in this week’s field who played in both The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open.
Tom Hoge won the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by two strokes over Jordan Spieth, earning his first PGA Tour victory and becoming the 13th first-time winner in tournament history and the first since D.A. Points in 2011. Hoge went on to record a career-best six Top-10s, and advanced to the Tour Championship for the first time in his career, finishing No. 10 in the FedEx Cup standings.
In nine starts this season, Hoge has three Top-10s, including a T-3 in his tournament debut at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Hoge seeks to become the first repeat winner at the tournament since Dustin Johnson (2009-10).
Matt Fitzpatrick is the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Fitzpatrick will make his fourth start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after finishing T-6 last year. The 2022 U.S. Open champion leads the TOUR in Par-5 Scoring Average (4.29).

TL’s Wedge for an Edge: Missed on Max Homa so I’m 2-for-4 since Jan 1st. Have misfired on all my One-and-Ones, last week Will Zalatoris was gonzo - MTC. This week, more chalk suggestions with Seamus Power, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick and a slight wild card with Andrew Putnam. That said, you can put Spieth on reserve/bench and play Maverick Mcnealy and Tom Hoge with the obvious chance to switch.
For the Tour One and Done? Taking Fitzy. (Fading Spieth)
