Mexico Open at Vidanta | Tournament Preview
VALLARTA, México - The Mexico Open at Vidanta is a new, official FedEx Cup event, added to the PGA Tour schedule for 2021-22, and the third official event in the modern era of the Tour to be held in Mexico.
Previous PGA Tournaments in Mexico included:
World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship 2017-2020
World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba 2007-present
World No. 2 Jon Rahm of Spain, the highest-ranked player in the field, is making his 11th start of the season and first since the Masters Tournament (T-27). Rahm's career-low score on the PGA Tour came at the 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship (61/R3/Club de Golf Chapultepec), which he matched at the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions (R-3).
Abraham Ancer, the highest-ranked player from Mexico in the Official World Golf Ranking at No. 20, is one of four players from Mexico to win on Tour (Victor Regalado, Cesar Sanudo, Carlos Ortiz). Ancer has three Top-10s in seven starts at the World Wide Technology Championship and made three starts at the WGC-Mexico Championship with his best, a T-12 in 2020.
Ancer on the Mexico Open at Vidanta: “Having an event like this creates opportunities for other Mexican players,” he said. “The lessons you learn in an event like this are priceless.”

TL’s Wedge for an Edge: We’re back to normal as the Mexico Open approaches and this week’s PGA Fantasy game will require the selection of the customary foursome with two bench players. The TL picks have been a little chilly, so we’ll rely on the old adage, “Your either HOT or you’re DUE.” I’m due. The Play? Gary Woodland, Abraham Ancer, Patrick Reed, and Cameron Tringale. On the bench Jon Rahm, in case he’s leading by five strokes and Kevin Na. For my PGA Tour One and Done at the Mexico, the pick is Woodland.
