Tournament Leaders and Notes

Russell Knox carded a six-under (65) and leads four golfers who shot minus five (66) in the first round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.

In addition, seven golfers are T-6 and only two strokes back at (-4). Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz is among the golfers at (-4) while fellow countryman Abraham Ancer is T-70 as he shot a disappointing +1 (72) in Round 1.

Knox has had some great finishes at the Mayakoba and was asked about it in his post-round interview session: “I guess it's the tequila and tacos,” he said for a laugh. “Obviously I love the course. It sets up well for me. I mean, historically, my driving accuracy and iron play's been my strength, so that's kind of the key things that this course brings out in you. Yeah, I mean, if I can keep doing that, we should be all right.”

Former amateur just turned pro, Andy Ogletree shot a two-under (69) and is T-20 in his first professional round ever.
