SILVIS - J.T. Poston holds 36-hole lead/co-lead for only the second time on PGA Tour in search of second win, the first came at 2019 Wyndham Championship. Poston’s 62-65 (127) set his career-best opening 36-hole score.
At T-2, Denny McCarthy will attempt to become the 24th player to make the John Deere Classic his first Tour title.
Making 20th consecutive tournament start, John Deere Classic Board member, USA Ryder Cup captain and 2012 champion of TPC Deere Run, Zach Johnson, is 4-under (138).
Sponsor exemption Chris Gotterup (T-3/-10) followed his first-round (65) with a 4-under (67), including four birdies and his first eagle on Tour (No. 14). The last sponsor exemption to win on the Tour was Martin Laird at the 2020 Shriners Children’s Open.
The top three players not otherwise exempt in the Top 10 and ties will qualify for the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.
Notable players to miss the cut: defending champion Lucas Glover, Cameron Champ, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker.
