PGA Tour Brunch | Final | WM Phoenix Open
On a Super Sunday in Arizona, Final Round Preview of WM Phoenix Open
By TERRY LYONS
SCOTTSDALE - In first title defense, Scottie Scheffler took a two-stroke lead in his bid to become the seventh player to successfully defend his WM Phoenix Open title. He’d be the first since Hideki Matsuyama in 2017.
World No. 3 Jon Rahm is closing FAST on third win of the season on the strength of a 3-under (68) in the third round, delayed because of darkness setting in on the course Friday night.
Having never cracked the Top-40 in eight previous WM Phoenix Open starts, Canada’s Nick Taylor is in position for PGA Tour win No. 3. He’s two back and tied with Rahm.
Jordan Spieth birdied three of his last six holes to move into the Top-5 in his seventh WM Phoenix Open start. A Top-10 finish would mark his 80th on the PGA Tour in his 242 starts.
Seeking his second PGA Tour title in 225th start (2017 Valspar Championship), Canadian Adam Hadwin (T-4) at (-10), made three birdies and three bogeys en route to an even-par (71). With a win, Hadwin can become the second Canadian to win this event (George Knudson/1968).
2019 WM Phoenix Open champion Rickie Fowler (T-6/-9) offset one bogey with five birdies to post a 4-under (67) in his 15th start at the event.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy sits T-28 at 3-under 210. He made his second WM Phoenix Open start (T-13/2021).
