Third Round Preview/Coverage of 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship
MEMPHIS - J.J. Spaun claimed his second career 36-hole lead/co-lead on Tour in his first start at TPC Southwind, following his opening round (62) with a second-round (67) while Sepp Straka snapped a streak of six missed cuts and set his career-low for 36-hole total at (130) - just one stroke off the lead at the halfway mark.
In search of his first PGA Tour title since 2018, Troy Merritt opened with matching (65s) while the red-hot Tony Finau seeks to become first player to successfully defend their title in a FedExCup Playoffs event. If so, he’d have three tournament wins in a row.
In his first start since his Open Championship victory, Cameron Smith carded a second-round (65) and sits T-5.
FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler missed the cut by one stroke.
Four former FedEx Cup champions miss the cut: Rory McIlroy (2019, 2016), Justin Rose (2018), Jordan Spieth (2015) and Billy Horschel (2014).
2021 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, Will Zalatoris, rebounded from a first-round 71 with a bogey-free (63) in round two of the championship.
The 36-hole cut: (69) players at 2-under (138) from a field of 120 professionals.
