Opening Round of the 2026 FedEx Cup / PGA Tour Playoffs
MEMPHIS - It’s Opening Day for the 2026 FedEx Cup Playoffs.
The 2026 PGA TOUR Season marks the 20th edition of the FedExCup (established in 2007), a season-long points competition which culminates with the FedExCup Playoffs, a series of three events to determine the FedEx Cup Champion
The winners of the first two FedExCup Playoffs events will earn 750 points (the same amount of points as THE PLAYERS Championship and majors), which is down from 2,000 in previous years. As part of the change to the TOUR Championship format in 2025, the reduction in FedExCup points available at the first two Playoffs events places added emphasis on regular-season performance.
The three events in the FedExCup Playoffs feature a progressive cut with fields of 70 (FedEx St. Jude Championship), 50 (BMW Championship) and 30 (TOUR Championship).
The Top 70 players in the FedExCup standings are fully exempt for all full-field events and THE PLAYERS Championship in 2027
The Top 50 players are exempt for all Signature Events in 2027
The Top 30 players receive a two-year exemption and invitations to majors that traditionally recognize the Top 30
Tournament Notes:
With 4,123 FedExCup points, Scottie Scheffler enters the FedEx Cup Playoffs with a 794-point lead over Matt Fitzpatrick in the FedEx Cup standings, and 966 points clear of Cameron Young (No. 3).
No player in the field this week can overtake No. 1 Scottie Scheffler with a win this week.
Eight of the last nine winners on TOUR were in their 20s, with the last three being 25 and younger (Jackson Koivun/21, Michael Thorbjornsen/24, Michael Brennan/24).
Of the eight first-time winners in 2026, seven qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs: Jacob Bridgeman (The Genesis Invitational), Ricky Castillo (Puerto Rico Open), Alex Fitzpatrick (Zurich Classic of New Orleans), Kristoffer Reitan (Truist Championship), Bud Cauley (RBC Canadian Open), Jackson Koivun (3M Open), Michael Thorbjornsen (Rocket Classic),
And, one other: Stefano Mazzoli (Corales Puntacana Championship).
Five PGA TOUR rookies qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs: Kristoffer Reitan (No. 18), Alex Fitzpatrick (No. 19), Sudarshan Yellamaraju (No. 57), Jordan Smith (No. 64) and Jackson Koivun (No. 70).
