On This Day in Golf History
August 6, 1972 - Gary Player hit, perhaps, the signature shot of his career en route to winning the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills in Michigan. Having lost his lead to Jim Jamieson with three holes to play, Player hit a nine-iron, blind approach shot over water and trees on the 16th hole to within four feet. He putted for birdie and went on to win by two strokes over Jamieson and Tommy Aaron. - Courtesy of Randy Walker, Author of On This Day in Golf History, available via Amazon.com and by clicking HERE
