PGA Tour Brunch | Preview of the 2026 Farmer's Insurance Open
By TERRY LYONS, Editor of Digital Sports Desk
SAN DIEGO - The 2026 Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines field of players has had more updates than Windows ‘95. A full listing is in its usual place down below, but suffice to say, keep an eye on changes to the field.
The name (probably) etched in stone to play this weekend is that of prodigal PGA Tour son, Brooks Koepka, who is playing his first Tour event since returning (under penalty) from LIV Golf. Koepka, who finished T-4 at this event in 2021, hasn’t played on Tour since the 2022 Dell Match Play (March 2022).
As part of his return to the PGA TOUR via the Returning Member Program, Koepka was added to the field (145) so as not to take a spot from a long-term or brand new TOUR member. To round out threesomes, the field was officially expanded to 147 as of Monday, with the first two alternates at that time – Jackson Suber and Lanto Griffin added to the field. Aside from this event, Koepka is also confirmed to play at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open and the Cognizant Classic, but he’ll be shaking the nerves out this weekend.
You might note, Harris English is the defending champion at the Farmer’s. He claimed his fifth PGA TOUR title at the ‘25 Farmers Insurance Open and went on to finish the season with four Top-10s – including runner-up finishes at the PGA Championship and Open Championship – and his fourth career TOUR Championship appearance (T13).
San Diego native Xander Schauffele is the tournament fave.
The Farmer’s is one of four PGA TOUR events that is played across multiple courses (others: The American Express, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and The RSM Classic). Here, the golfers play both Torrey Pines North and South courses.

TL’s Wedge for an Edge: This week, and this early in teh 2026 season, there will be some chalk in the ssuggestions with Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, Cameron Young and San Diego collegian JJ Spaun. My reserves: Just gotta hold a spot for Brooks Koepka, (just in case), and lastly, Patrick Cantlay.
For the Tour One and Done? It’s very tempting to go with Koepka, but let’s go with the 2026 hot sticks of a seemingly healthy Jason Day.
