Farmers Insurance Round 2: Tournament Notes and Quotes:

Inclement weather is in the cards for today’s second round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines (LaJolla/San Diego). The San Diego area could get 1.5 inches of rain due to an “atmospheric river.” (San Diego Union weather)

Scheduled tee times for today are HERE.

Eight-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed opened with a bogey free (64), tying his second-lowest first-round score on Tour. Reed has converted three of his previous five 18-hole leads/co-leads to victory.

How many fantasy players saw this one coming, although it was right in the 2018 tournament history? Alex Noren holds a share of the lead after tying his career-low round (64). Noren earned his career-best PGA Tour result at the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open, but lost in a playoff to Jason Day.

Of the 15 players that shot (66) or better, only Peter Malnati (66) and Ryan Palmer (66) played the South Course.

The South Course played to (Front Nine 35.962); (Back Nine 37.205) tougher 73.167 while the North Course played (Front Nine 34.462); (Back Nine 34.987) for an easier average score of 69.449.

Rory McIlroy on his game, after shooting a four-under (68) in the opening round: “I’m optimistic. In this game, you have to be an eternal optimist.”

Editor’s Note: We’ll target 11am ET for your PGA Tour Brunch missive on Saturday.

January 29, 2012 - Brandt Snedeker begins to conduct his post final round press conference, figuring a second place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines when Kyle Stanley triple-bogeys for 8 on the final hole and the two players windup in a playoff. Snedeker wins the tournament on the second hole of the playoff after trailing by nine holes earlier in the day. Stanley was seeking his first PGA Tour victory.
