Third Round Preview of 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge | Ft Worth

FT. WORTH - Ben Griffin holds his second 36-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR but is 0-for-1 to date in securing a win with that lead: (2023 Sanderson Farms Championship; finished T2). Griffin’s 11-under (129) equalled his best opening 36-hole score on TOUR (2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship; finished T3). This was Griffin’s 18th start of the season where he has notched five Top-10 finishes (T7/The American Express, T4/Mexico Open at Vidanta World, T4/Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, Won/Zurich Classic of New Orleans/with teammate Andrew Novak, T8/PGA Championship). Griffin’s second round (63) is his season-low PGA TOUR round in individual stroke play by two strokes (previous: 65/R4/Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Matti Schmid (T1/-11) carded a bogey-free second-round (63) in his second appearance at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He MC in 2024. This marked his 15th career bogey-free round in 215 total rounds on TOUR with the most recent: 2025/R1/The American Express).
Schmid holds the 36-hole lead/co-lead for the third time on TOUR but is 0-for-2 to date in converting to victory (2022 ISCO Championship/T8, 2024 Shriners Children’s Open/T3).
Schmid made his 79th start on TOUR and seeking his first career win. His best finishes: 2024 Shriners Children’s Open/T3, 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship/3rd).
After posting his career-low PGA TOUR score (63) in the first round, John Pak (3rd/-9) now trails by two entering the third round. Schmid’s only Top-25 finish in 27 career starts came at the 2025 Mexico Open at VidantaWorld (T17).
Chris Gotterup (4th/-8), who owns one victory in 56 starts on TOUR (2024 ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic), carded rounds of 67-65 in his second start at the Charles Schwab Challenge after missing the cut with rounds of 76-70 in his 2024 debut.
Defending champion Davis Riley (+2) missed the cut by two strokes.
