PALM HARBOR - Stephan Jaeger made seven birdies, tied for the most in the field, and posted a 5-under (66) for a share of the 18-hole lead, and marking his second 18-hole lead/co-lead on Tour (1st/2021 Corales Puntacana Championship/but finished T-48).

Meanwhile, Ryan Brehm aced the 196-yard par-3 No. 17 en route to 5-under (66) and his first 18-hole lead/co-lead on Tour. And, Adam Schenk carded six birdies and one bogey to join Brehm and Jaeger at 5-under (66) for his first 18-hole lead/co-lead in a Tour event.

Reigning back-to-back champion Sam Burns opened with 2-under (69) at T-12 in his bid to join Tiger Woods (six times), Steve Stricker (John Deere Classic/2009-11), and Stuart Appleby (Sentry Tournament of Champions/2004-06) as the only players in the last 40 years to win the same PGA TOUR event at least three years in a row.

Jordan Spieth, winner of the 2015 Valspar Championship, opened with a bogey-free 4-under (67) and stands T-4.

Matthew NeSmith WD (Back injury) before Thursday’s round and was replaced by Sean O’Hair.

March 17, 1963 - Raymond Floyd won his first career PGA Tour title at the St. Petersburg Open Invitational in Tampa-St. Pete, Florida. Floyd won at the age of 20 years to become the youngest member of the Tour to win an event since 1928. Floyd had turned pro only four months before his first win.
